Leaf Hedgehog - A autumn crafting activity for children.
Are you ready for a fun and simple nature-inspired craft? Let's create an adorable leaf hedgehog! Perfect children's crafting activity for autumn.
This cute little friend is the perfect autumn craft to make after a nature walk or a trip to the park or shops. You only need a few colourful leaves, paper, and imagination. Not only is this project super easy, but it's also a great way to celebrate the changing seasons while making something special.
You can discuss the different shapes and colours of the leaves together while collecting and making your hedgehog.
To get started you can download our hedgehog template here or draw your own 🦔🍁.
What you need
- A small collection of autumn leaves; remember not to pick any from the tree. Only use the ones the trees no longer need from the ground.
- One A4 piece of paper and a felt tip to draw your hedgehog or download our template here to print out.
- PVA glue and a brush or spatula to spread the glue out.
- Scissors to cut off the leaves stems.
If your leaves are damp, give them time to dry; top tip: place them with a towel on top and underneath and some books on top to flatten them before starting.
Step One - Take your A4 paper and draw your hedgehog outline, or download and print ours.
Step Two - Lay out where you want the leaves to go and trim the stems off.
Step Three - Grab your PVA glue and stick the leaves down.
Step Four - You can colour in a nose and eyes or use some craft eyes and pom pom for the nose for extra character.
Step Five - Leave to dry.
Idea! While waiting for your hedgehogs to dry, spend some time together to identify the different trees where the leaves are from.
